Jacqui Thornton Communications

Chairing panels, public debates and meetings is an element of Jacqui’s work that receives consistently excellent feedback from clients.

She has made a name for herself chairing media advisory boards attended by national newspaper journalists, magazine writers, trade editors and specialist medical writers, putting them at their ease but carefully teasing out information at the same time. She has chaired such meetings on subjects as diverse as HIV, Alzheimer’s disease and blood cancers.

She is equally happy chairing high profile public events. Recently she chaired Dr Simon Singh and Prof Edzard Ernst debating alternative medicine after the publication of their book ‘Trick or Treatment?’ at the prestigious Royal Institution, with a 300-strong audience.

Jacqui is an engaging panellist herself on a wide variety of health topics, usually in relation to the media, science and medicine. This year she spoke at the Talking About Mental Health conference on a platform with former spin doctor Alastair Campbell.

In 2009 she spoke at an Editorial Intelligence breakfast meeting on alcohol and the media called ‘Does the Media Make Us Reach for the Bottle?’ at the Commonwealth Club in London.

She regularly speaks and chairs at party conference fringe meetings; in 2009 in Bournemouth she chaired a debate on localism for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, while in 2008 she was on panels at both the Conservative and Liberal Democrat party fringe for the Breast Cancer Campaign and the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Society.

She spoke to the Chartered Institute of Public Relations on the impact of media stories on patients & patient groups, and was the keynote speaker at a World Nuclear Association’s Young Professionals seminar.
